Cheney planning commissioners unanimously approved updates to the city’s municipal zoning code under Chapter 21 at their regular meeting held Jan. 13. The commissioners held a public meeting prior to the vote to receive any testimony on the updates, which they have been working on at an accelerated pace since last spring.
No residents provided testimony, and city planner Brett Lucas told the commission they hadn’t received any additional comments since the last meeting in December. The updates now move to the City Council for its approval.
The commission also held a public hearing on the city’s proposed 2014-2019 Capital Facilities Plan. According to document language, state law requires cities to prepare and submit such plans based upon service standards that can be measured and which are financially feasible for the next ‘six fiscal years after plan adoption.”
Cheney’s plan includes a wide array for projects ranging from expansion of facilities such as City Hall and the Utility Building to transportation and utility infrastructure projects.
Some projects indicated sources of funding such as through fees, grants and increased revenue from growth. Some projects showed no funding sources at all, which raised questions from commissioners.
“We must have the projects in this list, even if not funded, in order to be able to accept any future funds,” City Administrator Arlene Fisher said.
The commissioners unanimously approved the Capital Facilities Plan, which also now moves forward for City Council approval.
