ML book club reviews ‘Gatsby’

The Medical Lake Friends of the Library will be discussing “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald at its Jan. 13 meeting.

The Monday meeting starts with a social hour and refreshments at 12:30 p.m. followed by a book discussion at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend. 

The club meets in the Medical Lake Library meeting room on 321 E. Herb St. Call 893-8330 for directions.

Feed ML resumes Jan. 13

Feed Medical Lake starts the New Year with a free meal and free groceries, Jan. 13, from 5-6 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 223 S. Hallett St. The menu is chili with cornbread, corn pone, or crackers, fruit, and apple crisp.

Central Methodist services

The public is invited to special worship at Central United Methodist Church, Sunday, Jan. 12, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Attend and help keep the doors open to Spokane’s oldest surviving church.

Originally founded by pastor S.E. Havermale, church members were instrumental in the founding of Spokane’s Deaconess Hospital, Rockwood Retirement Community and many other endeavors.

Guest speaker is Dan Meckel with special music by Craig and Kristina Willson. The message is “Story of Joseph – Love-Faith-Forgiveness” centered on Genesis, Chapters 37-46.

Central United Methodist Church is located at 518 W. Third Ave., corner of Third and Howard.
