Fire department welcomes champs back home after title

Medical Lake's first-ever cross country state championship earned the Cardinals a special reception upon the team's return from Pasco last Saturday. The team received an escort from the Medical Lake Fire Department.

"The kids really got a big kick out of that," co-coach Gene Blankenship said.

"They picked us up at the city limits and had their flashing lights as the bus followed," he said. "When we got into the city they put on the sirens and all these cars are pulling over and stuff."

By the time they got to the bus loop there were parents and other well-wishers there to welcome home their champions. The state title was Medical Lake's fifth and goes with two won in tennis, one in basketball and another in wrestling.
