Deadlines for submitting West Plains Briefs is noon Monday. Briefs should be under 100 words if possible. Briefs may be edited for length.

Turkey Trot is Nov. 28

The Cheney High cross country team’s sixth annual Turkey Trot is taking place Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m. at the high school track. The two-mile walk or three-mile run is for runners and walkers of all ages.

The entry fee is $5 without a T-shirt. Late T-shirt order/entry is $25 day of the trot. Participants also receive a ticket for a drawing to win a turkey and other prizes.

ML Dollars for Scholars holds meeting Nov. 21

Medical Lake Dollars for Scholars is holding its annual public meeting Thursday, Nov. 21 at Medical Lake’s City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 6:30 p.m. Updates will be provided on current finances and scholarships, election of officers and upcoming fundraising events.

Ice Age Floods lecture nears

The Cheney/Spokane Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute is hosting a lecture by senior research scientist Bruce Bjornstad on “Ice Age Flood(s) and long-term recharge from glacial Lake Columbia.” The lecture is Thursday, Nov. 14 from 7-9 p.m. at Eastern Washington University’s Science Building room 137.

The annual membership meeting and dessert reception for active members is also taking place from 6-7 p.m. on the same date and at the same location with the exception that it is in room 118.

Bjornstad is with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and is the author of “On the Trail of the Ice Age Floods” guidebooks.
