John Taves' electrical experience offers insight on City Council

Letters to the Editor

Cheney Mayor Tom Trulove thought so highly of John Taves that he appointed him in September 2012 to fill the uncompleted term of council member Mike McKeehan. Now John is running for election to Position 3 on the Cheney City Council. We enthusiastically endorse his candidacy.

We got to know John for his work on the board of the Cheney-Spokane Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute. We have been impressed by his personality, professionalism and his work ethic. We believe he is exceptionally well qualified for this position.

Most notably he was a long-time executive with the Bonneville Power Administration. This, of course, gives him a practical knowledge of one of our city’s important relationships. We purchase our electrical power from Bonneville for resale to city residents.

John also has earned a Ph.D in sociology from Washington State University.

As a U.S. Army veteran, I have a deep appreciation for the service of those who have worn our country’s uniform. John’s service has been exemplary. He is a Vietnam veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star during his 13-month tour of duty.
