The Friends of Turnbull invites families, and small groups to enjoy a bike ride on the 5.5-mile auto tour route through the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, Sept. 28, particularly from noon to 4 p.m.
Bring bikes loaded on your car and park in the lot near the refuge administration building. Those who would rather walk, or families with younger children can take a one-mile hike around Pine Lakes to see swans and other birds, river otter and coyote signs.
Guides will have maps at the start to the auto tour gravel road. Enjoy the views of the scabland terrain, ponderosa forest, ponds and migrating birds, while riding.
Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge’s entrance is located five miles south of Cheney on Cheney-Plaza Road. The refuge headquarters is just over two miles from the entrance and the start of the auto tour Road.
Entrance to the refuge is $3 per car or Refuge Annual Pass, Annual Federal Duck Stamp, and Interagency Access, Senior and Volunteer Passes.
