ML council approves commute agreement

The Medical Lake City Council approved two actions items at their only meeting in August last Tuesday night.

The council unanimously approved continuation of an interlocal agreement with Spokane County to implement commute trip reduction plans on behalf of the city. The agreement updates the amount of money allocated to the county on behalf of Medical Lake from the Washington State Department of Transportation, which City Administrator Doug Ross said this year is $10,900.

The agreement is needed because state laws require municipalities with “major employers” to implement plans to improve improve transportations systems and reduced fuel consumption. State facilities Eastern State Hospital, Westlake and Lakeland Village qualify as major employers.

The council also approved the extension of a contract with Airway Heights Corrections Center in which the city will be able to utilize the center’s work crews.
