John Torno

John Torno was born in Minot N.D. Aug. 7, 1927 to Bert and Alvina Torno. He grew up on a farm in Max, N.D. the oldest of three children.

John served in the Army during the Korean War, attended trade school in Wapaton, N.D. and moved to Cheney Wash. in 1955. There he worked as an automotive mechanic at Ratcliffe Ford and joined the Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he met and fell in love with Geri Mason. They were married in 1959 and had three children.

John went on to become a steam engineer for Eastern Washington University and retired in 1989. He spent his summers enjoying camping, fishing and biking with his family and his winters in Mesa, Ariz. with his wife and friends.

John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Geri, his children Sue Leach (Bary), Ken (Kara), and Rob (Darla), eight grandchildren, brother, Lawrence of Kennewick, Wash. and sister, Eleanor Mehlhoff of Garrison, N.D.

A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cheney on Thursday, June 20 at 2 p.m.
