Friends of Turnbull dinner and auction raises funds to support refuge

One of the area’s most important natural resources and attractions is the Turnbull Natural Wildlife Refuge, and a regional organization is holding a fundraiser this weekend in Cheney to help support its mission.

The Friends of Turnbull are holding a dinner and auction Saturday, April 13, at the Wren Pierson Community Center, 615 Fourth St., to support the refuge. The evening begins with a wine reception and silent auction at 5 p.m., featuring the music of Spokane folk singer/songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player Mark Kreilkamp.

Dinner follows at 6 p.m., catered by Klink’s of Williams Lake, with a live auction featuring auctioneer and Cheney Parks and Recreation Director Paul Simmons beginning at 6:30 p.m. A selection of those providing silent and auction items includes Vision Haus, Action Materials, Miller Ranch, Brown Bear Car Wash, Sweet Frostings, Hilton Garden Inn, Whitestone Winery, Rich Leon Photography and Smooth Sailing Heating & Air Conditioning.

The Friends of Turnbull have also partnered with Cheney Jubilee to serve wine (free) and beer, with proceeds going to this year’s Jubilee, July 13-14.

General admission tickets are $35, with children age 12 and under free. Onsite childcare is available, pricing and reservation information at 509-498-9250.

Tickets can be purchased at the following locations in Cheney: The Mason Jar and the Red Rooster, both located in downtown Cheney, Cheney Parks and Recreation office, 609 Second St. and the Turnbull gift store located on the refuge. Tickets can also be purchased online through friendsofturnbull.brownpapertickets.com, with a $5 savings.
