Medical Lake preps for start of Northeast A soccer play

Medical Lake’s boys’ soccer team takes a 1-1-0 record into a busy stretch of games next week that sees the Cardinals begin Northeast A League play.

The Cards face Pullman Saturday at noon at Shephard Field in a non-league contest and hit the road for a contest in Clarkston Tuesday, March 26 before hosting Lakeside Thursday at 4 p.m. in the opening day of the NEA season.

Medical Lake comes off a 3-0 non-league loss this past Monday to Rogers of the Greater Spokane League in a contest that was finally decided by a pair of late second-half goals.

Rogers’ Andrew Sin scored a goal at the 30 minute mark of the first half, but it was his goal off a corner kick in the 65th minute that turned the tide in a game played on a brutally cold afternoon at the Meyers’ Field complex in Spokane.

The Pirates’ Pedro Gurana completed the scoring tapping a shot by Brendan Satcher in the 77th minute. Steven Vasquez began the game in goal but was moved up front in the final 10 minutes in order to provide more offensive punch. The two keepers combined for six saves.

Last Friday Dallas White scored all three goals, all in the first half, in Medical Lake’s 3-1 non-league win at home against Deer Park. He opened scoring at the 5-minute mark and then hit for back-to-back goals just 2 minutes apart – at 28 and 30 minutes – for important insurance.

Satcher and Vasquez shared the keeper job in the win over Deer Park and combined for another six saves. Medical Lake out shot Deer Park 14-7.
