Barton John Freitag, Sr.

Beloved Husband, Dad, Pops, Papa, Grandpa, and Opa went to be with his Lord on March 7, 2013 with his family beside him at the Cheney Care Center.

Barton was born Sept. 26, 1931 in Sydney, Montana to Alfred and Marie (Yuhl) Freitag. He graduated from Mead High School in 1949. Barton was in the Navy Reserve from September 1949 to September 1954.

He retired after 35 years from Eastern State Hospital. He started work in the wards, then worked as a mechanic and ended as security supervisor, belonging to Union No. 660.

Survived by his wife Alma of 56 years, daughters: Irene Freitag, Tami (Tom) Barham, Vicki (Bob) Rose; sons: BJ (Laurie) Freitag, Karl (Gina) Freitag; sister Joyce and brothers: David (Norma Jean), Leonard, Charles (Ida Beth), sister in law Jeanette; grandchildren: Brenna (Matt), Carissa (Jeremy), Jessica (Jacob), Bradley (Stephanie), Breanne (Richard), Miranda (Nathan), Nicole (Nathan), Megan, Ashley (Robert), Jodi (John), Emma and Rayna; great grandchildren: Tavia, Caleb, Nolan, Sloan, Noah, Liam, Dominic, Dalton, Tyler, Brayden, expected baby boy, Bentley, Harper and Bailey; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Preceded in death by father, mother, brother Robert, and sister in law Grace.

He enjoyed family gatherings such as our annual Saturday before Fourth of July picnics, his garden of red potatoes and garlic, watching bull riding rodeos, painting, leatherwork, fishing, hunting, Alan Jackson’s music, and never missed a Zags men’s basketball game.

Interment followed by memorial service is Friday, March 22, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 West Wellesley in Spokane.
