John H. Jarvis Jr. went to be with his son, John E Jarvis, in the heavens Saturday Jan. 26, 2013. His loving wife Anita Jarvis, daughter Donna Peterson who gave him three grandchildren, and five great-grandkids, survives him. He lovingly raised his wife’s sister (Phyllis Bergmans) three children as his own resulting in seven more grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was married to Anita for 61 years. He was a retired Air Force veteran and was in military 23 years, civil service for over 20, and fought in Vietnam. He continued to be involved in Fairchild Air Force Base by volunteering at the pharmacy for another 20-plus years. During his life he had several associations with birds. Anyone who knows him knows of his extensive birdhouse collection.
His CB call name was “Red Rooster.” Hospice nicknamed him “Birdman,” his oldest great-granddaughter was his “Jaybird,” and all his grandsons were chicken thieves. He always had a funny joke, story, or song that he sometimes accompanied with harmonica, guitar, banjo, or fiddle. He was always willing to help anyone in need, so, to continue his life of giving we are asking instead of flowers that a donation be made to Hospice House of Spokane in John Jarvis’ name, so he can have a tribute leaf in his honor.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at St. Anne Church/Hall in Medical Lake. This is a kid friendly event with crafts, food, and memories. Please come share your story.
