Margaret A. Kaplan (age 92) longtime resident of Spangle, Wash. passed away Dec. 27, 2012 in Spokane.
Margaret was born May 28, 1920 near Chapman Lake south of Cheney to W.J. and Hilda (Dybdall) Grogan. She was a graduate of Cheney High School, class of 1939. Margaret worked on the family ranch as well as helping her uncle Ole at Chapman Lake Resort before her marriage to Gene Kaplan in 1954. She returned to the resort as the owner in 1990.
Margaret’s interests included being a 4-H leader, gardening, crochet and embroidery work, she was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for her daughters to wear to school. She enjoyed baking and many said she made the best cinnamon rolls ever. Margaret loved the beautiful flowers of the world and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds work outside the windows of her home. She also served as the president of the Washington Home Economics Club and the Washington State Cowbelles.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Gene Kaplan at the home in Spangle, daughters; Kathy (Bryan) Jones of Helix, Ore. and Mary (Calvin Thomas) Kaplan of Spangle, brother Robert Grogan of Cheney. Margaret is survived by one grandson and two great-granddaughters; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents W.J. and Hilda Grogan, brothers William (Bill) and Edgar Grogan.
