Cheney to hold virtual planning sessions on city's future look

Cheney residents have a chance to look into the city's future landscape and offer opinions to help shape what they want to see. The city is conducting several Visual Preference Surveys the week of June 18 – 22 as part of the Unified Development Code update process.

These surveys have been used by many governments when making zoning code changes. Participants are shown a series of pictures that depicts various building and infrastructure styles. The participants then score what they've seen from best to worst.

The pictures and responses are grouped into several categories like streetscapes, residential neighborhoods, and downtown business areas, to name a few. The data from the surveys is then used by city planners and community partners to update the language of development codes to reflect what current members of the community want to see.

General public sessions take place at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, June 18; 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19; 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, June 21 and 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at the Wren Pierson Community Center at 615 Fourth St.

A session for Cheney youth takes place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Wren Pierson Community Center, and a senior session begins at noon, June 20, in the Sessions Village Community Center of the Cheney Care Center at 2219 N. Sixth St. Lunch will be served at 11:30 for the senior session for those who RSVP to (509) 235-6196.

Each session will take between 45 minutes and an hour. Final results of the survey will be presented at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 at the Wren Pierson Community Center.
