Dialogue needed on Referendum 74 to bring truth to the top

The May 31 letter by Nancy Street (In the growing political season, it's time to tell the truth) was as interesting as it was frustrating.

Mrs. Street obviously has information concerning Referendum 74. I am only sorry she did not feel it necessary to divulge this information. It would benefit those of us who are not as knowledgeable as she to be able to speak intelligently to the issue should we encounter a petitioner.

Merely calling names makes real dialogue difficult.

Summer bus passes for EWU students would have impact

It has been brought to my attention that bus fare is not covered for Eastern students who are attending summer courses. As a student part of your fees that you pay for tuition fall, winter, and spring quarter are used towards giving you free use of the bus. However, Spokane Transit does not accept student IDs during the summer.

Why not have bus passes available during the summer when there are still students in need of this service such as those who are staying on campus to work? This is forcing students to pay to commute on top of their tuition and other living costs, potentially leaving them with financial worries. I think it would be a good idea for the communities of Cheney, Spokane and EWU to support the students by giving them this accommodation. Work with the EWU staff and offer some kind of deal or alternative funding so the students can easily get where they need to go not just during the school year but during the summer as well.
