West Plains clubs do well at Junior Livestock Show

Local FFA and 4-H clubs competed at the 77th annual Junior Livestock Show of Spokane, held May 1-6 at the Spokane County Interstate Fairgrounds.

Results are as follows:

Beef:

FFA Market Steer: Grand Champion – Makeeka Wegner, Medical Lake FFA, 1,209 pound steer sold to Pacific Dealer Services for $2.95 per lb.

FFA Prospect Steer: Reserve Champion – Kayleen Oliver – Medical Lake FFA

FFA Beef Fitting and Showing: Reserve Champion – Maleeka Wegner – Medical Lake FFA

Swine:

4-H Overall Market Swine: Grand Champion – Bailee Perleberg – North Country 4-H, 295 lbs hog sold to Scott and Paula Nelson for $2.85 per lb.

Reserve Champion –Bailee Perleberg – North Country 4-H, 290 lb hog sold to Wagner Show Pigs for $3.10 per lb.

Light Weight Grand Champion – 249 lbs – Sharon Estes – North Country 4-H

Medical Lake Purple Ribbons: Laura Robinson (Lamb Market Division), Rachel Crofoot (Swine Market and Showmanship Divisions), Samantha Dickey (Lamb Market Division).

All Medical Lake FFA exhibitors received blue ribbons in both Market and Showmanship Divisions for: Beef – Taylor Brown (purple showmanship), Beef Prospect – Kayleen Oliver (purple showmanship) and Connlee Gray; Swine – Jacob Steinmetz, Kayla McBride, Koral Deen and John Kelley; Sheep – Journie Ash, Cameron Tinsler, Jordyn Doty, Rachel Crofoot and Zoey Werner.

Medical Lake won the “Sheep Herdsmanship” award.

The total number of animals sold at the show were as follows: Beef – 134, lambs – 97, hogs – 248 and goats – 31.
