Apologies offered for delay in StageWest's ‘Blithe Spirit'

StageWest Community Theatre of the West Plains wishes to give our most heartfelt apologies to everyone that expected to attend our theatre last weekend or this weekend.

Due to problems beyond our control we had to postpone our opening two full weeks.  And we did not know this until Friday morning, May 3, our prospective opening night.

However, we are having another opening on May 18 and will run through June 3. The tickets were already made up and will be honored even if the wrong dates are on the tickets. So do not worry about it if you had already purchased the tickets.  The show will still be “Blithe Spirit” by Noel Coward, a light comedy about séances and very funny ghosts who unexpectedly appear, much to the dismay of their husband.

Our show will be Fridays May 18, 25 and June 1 at 7 p.m.; Saturdays May 19, 26 and June 2 at 7 p.m. and Sundays May 27 and June 3 at 3 p.m.

It will still be performed at 639 Elm St., Cheney. Ticket prices will still be adults $12 and seniors 60-plus $8 and all students will be $8.

Thank you so very much.

Athletics, many other student-oriented programs are why EWU is growing

I see a problem at Eastern Washington University that has been partially addressed, but not to the extent that it should. That problem is the lack of focus on the athletic aspect of this university. Most of our sports teams have been historically bad, and this has likely caused the university to become apathetic.

Eastern is the fastest growing school in Washington because students are attracted to things like the red turf and a championship football team; the growth we are experiencing didn't come out of nowhere.

If the school starts investing more into other athletics, it will be able to reap the same kinds of benefits it has gotten from football. People argue that Eastern is an academic institution and should be treated as such, but investing in athletics is really investing in the school. With more attention paid to athletics the school can expect to see increased TV revenue, more school spirit (leading to higher sales at the bookstore), increased ticket revenue, better recruiting, and a more attractive looking campus as was seen when the statues were put in after the football championship.

Let our administration know, now is the time to invest in our Eagles!
