Dan Tollefson

Daniel passed away peacefully in his sleep at home March 15, 2012 with his wife Amy at his side.

He was born Dec. 2,1932 in Steele, N.D. to Martin and Mabel Tollefson and joined a sister, Lucille. The family moved to Cheney when he was two. He graduated from Cheney High School in 1951.

After graduating he was called to active duty in the U.S. Naval Mine Division and stationed in Sasabo, Japan. He was released to inactive duty on Sept. 2, 1953. Dan then returned to Cheney to complete his education at Eastern Washington College (University) with a degree in Vocational Education.

On Oct. 4, 1956 he married Eulalia Hunt and moved to Grand Coulee where he taught for three years, then transferred to Maple Valley and taught at Tahoma High School until retirement in 1986 then moved to Lacey. Dan, Eulalia and family enjoyed many years of cruising and spending vacations on the Oregon coast.

Eulalia passed away at home in 2003 after a long illness. On May 28. 2007 Dan married a long-time friend and classmate Amy Melville Sooy and again they enjoyed cruising, the Oregon coast and summers at Williams Lake in the Cheney area.

Dan is survived by his wife Amy, daughter Danelle (Bob) Belden and his son Ronald, two grandchildren and two great-grandsons; his extended family, Linda (John) Vickrey, Jim (Patti) Sooy, Ron Sooy, Ray (Kathleen) Sooy and four grandchildren; sister Lucille (Ted) Knutsen.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eulalia and his parents Martin and Mabel Tollefson.

A special thank you to Dr. Lechner and the staff at Providence Western Washington Oncology for their wonderful and friendship.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be available Friday, March 23 from 1-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. In celebration of Dan's life a memorial will be held at Bunker's Resort at Williams Lake.
