AARP helping West Plains area seniors to file their taxes

In partnership with the IRS, the AARP Free Taxaide service is once again open at the Cheney Library.

This year over 10 volunteers have been certified with IRS to assist taxpayers with their taxes. The Internal Revenue Service sponsors the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs.

The mission of these programs is to provide free basic tax return preparation for low-to-moderate income and elderly taxpayers. This also includes taxpayers with disabilities, limited English proficiency and the Military.

The Cheney Taxaide site is available by appointment only on Thursday evenings from 4-7 p.m. and Friday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. throughout the tax season with the last day of service ending April 13.

To schedule an appointment at the Cheney tax site, please call the appointment line at 509-358-3526.
