Support local theatre efforts in attending StageWest's show

Our own West Plains theatre StageWest has an excellent play in production right now. “Portraits” gives us a compelling glimpse into the lives of seven very diverse people who were directly or indirectly affected by the events of 9/11, based on true stories.

The characters are superbly portrayed by veteran actors and is directed by veteran StageWest actor Phil West in this outstanding directing debut. The show continues through Feb. 18 with shows on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m.

All performances are at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cheney. I hope you will make time to see the play – you'll be glad you did.

Expressing gratitude for assistance during a time of difficulty

I would like to express my sincere gratitude and thanks for the assistance I received during my recent medical emergency.

First, I would like to thank the Cheney Firefighter's for their quick response and for saving my life. Their medical training was paramount in keeping me alive.

Second, I would like to thank my family, friends, Mayor Trulove and City Administrator Arlene Fisher and all of the city department heads, council and workers as well as my KHQ family for their love and support, and prayers for my recovery. The cards, visits, flowers and well-wishes all meant so much to me.

Lastly, I'd like to thank my church family at Cheney Faith Center. I don't believe I would be here without the support I received from everyone. God bless you all.

Eastwood commercial hit the right notes

Perhaps I'm wrong - but I don't think so. I refer to the commercial by Clint Eastwood at the beginning of the half time period of the Super Bowl. I openly admit it — I cried at the end of it — and I am not an easy man to cry after what I have seen in my lifetime. Perhaps others had the same feeling.

It was almost as if Lincoln himself was speaking to the “soul of the nation.” So moving was the delivery and the subject matter of us getting back on our feet — together — regardless of what one's political or philosophical viewpoint may be. Emotionally speaking, it captured what we as a nation can do by ourselves. Yes, we have taken economic hits and millions of middle class jobs have been lost -many of which may never come back; but the true character and soul of the nation will always be with us — whether it be economically — or spiritually speaking.

Well done Clint.

Brewer had poor manners with Obama

Brewer was not right to shake her finger at the president. As our commander in chief the president deserves respect (if you voted for him or not). From the article I read I understood that the governor was reacting to the president's not having read her book.

For any reason, the action exhibited very poor manners.

MLSD levy helps keep schools effective

I have been a resident of the Medical Lake School District since 1980 and had four children graduate from MLHS. The upcoming levy replacement proposal for February 14 is essential to protect and sustain our children's education. The programs that will be effected – class size, extra curricular activities, keeping current with technology, instructional materials and text books.

Without levy funding our student's education may be impacted. Every student deserves the best we can offer.

Therefore I am asking that you vote for Medical Lake School District replacement maintenance and operation levy on Feb.14.
