One of the best ways to improve the efficiency and profitability of a farm operation is to invest time in getting refreshed and organized before the production season.
The 2012 Women in Agriculture conference is designed to help women farmers regenerate themselves and their farm planning this spring by offering engaging speakers and networking opportunities. The Feb. 11 conference will feature two engaging speakers, farmer Lyn Garling and author Rita Emmet, and be broadcast to 16 different locations throughout the state.
Garling, owner of Over the Moon Farm, will relate her trials and tribulations of getting started in farming later in life in a humorous and inspiring presentation. Emmet, the author of “The Procrastinator's Handbook” will share how to overcome procrastination by recognizing it as simply a habit and not a character trait. She will explain how to “Blast Away Procrastination” in order to be more successful at work, in relationships and in life.
At each location local speakers will also offer practical advice on how to improve farm management including how to stay focused, keep current on market trends, the latest production methods and financial management.
The registration deadline for the conference is Jan. 25. The registration fee of $25 includes admission to the event, a copy of Emmet's “The Procrastinator's Handbook,” lunch, and an opportunity to be listed in a farm guide that will be shared with conference participants.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity to share these two entertaining speakers with women farmers throughout the state, as well as providing networking opportunities and local speakers at each location,” WIA coordinator Margaret Viebrock said. “It is going to be a fun and educational conference this year.”
The WIA conference, while geared towards women, is open to all producers including supporting spouses and aspiring farmers. Agriculture students and farm interns are also welcome to participate.
