Here are a few of the Cheney Free Press photos taken this year.
Clockwise from top left:
1.What was old is new again
The city of Cheney spent 2011 rebuilding the Wren Pierson Community Center. After part of the roof collapsed under snow in December 2008, the Parks and Recreation department, along with community service organizations that were displaced, returned to the building in August.

3. One icy plunge is not enough
Bryan Dornbos, a veteran Eastern Washington University police officer, took the plunge into Medical Lake once every 24 hours leading up to 2011's annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge in February. The event drew more than 100 people to take the plunge, with funds going to fund the organization.
4. As close to the real thing as it gets
Airway Heights Police Department began using a virtual training system for its officers. The system produces a life-like situation for officers, and includes replicas of weapons used in the field.
