Two men died in a single vehicle rollover on Salnave Road Dec. 24.

Derrick R. Wilson, 28, of Cheney died along with his passenger, Brett A. Schallock of Spokane, when the truck he was driving left the road at high speeds near the intersection of Salnave and South Granite Lake roads northwest of Cheney. Spokane County Sheriff's detectives said that the 2004 Ford F-150 truck, which was being driven westbound toward in the early morning Dec. 24, left the road and rolled at least four times, traveling more than 300 feet from the roadway. Detectives were still investigating the cause of the accident.

Sheriff's detectives said Wilson and Schallock were seen at a Spokane bar in the hours before the accident. According to data collected from the truck's powertrain control module, the truck was speeding at 99 miles per hour right before it left the road.

Spokane County Fire District firefighters responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, finding both men dead. Detectives say both men were buckled into their seats. Officials were waiting for the results of toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident, which occurred on a straight portion of Salnave Road. The posted speed limit there is 45 miles per hour.
