Two sisters who conspired to rob their 92-year-old grandmother pleaded guilty to the July 25 crime.
Jackee Stearns initially entered a not guilty plea at an arraignment in August to charges of residential burglary and third-degree theft. Jackee changed her plea to guilty Dec. 9, to second-degree theft. As part of the court's judgment, she agreed to pay $350 in restitution to her grandmother, according to court documents.
A five-year no-contact order was also added, replacing previous no-contact orders.
Prosecuting attorney John Love said Jamee Stearns would enter a guilty plea the afternoon of Dec. 20, canceling her rescheduled March 5 trial next year. He said she would receive a similar restitution and no-contact order.
Love said the judgment and restitution amount for the sisters were typical for this kind of case.
According to police reports of the initial incident, Jamee distracted her grandmother outside her home on the 700 block of East Ladd Street, while Jackee entered and took $300. Jackee later told officers that she took the money to pay her rent. The sisters' grandmother said they had stolen from her in the past, and were not allowed around or inside her home.
A trial date had been set for Dec. 19, but the guilty pleas effectively canceled it.
