James (Jim) Merrill passed away unexpectedly in his sleep Aug. 20, 2011 at Manor Care Health Services in Spokane at age 65. He was born Sept. 12, 1945 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane.
He graduated from high school in Cheney in 1963. He continued his education at Eastern Washington State College where he received a bachelor of arts in journalism and theatre in 1968.
Jim worked for the Cheney School District in transportation services for 27 years. He was a well-known and beloved school bus driver for the majority of his time at the school district. He left the school district due to disability in 1997. Jim married Janice Bjornberg on April 6, 1989.
He is survived by his wife Janice; his stepson Brian Griffin of Florida; his stepdaughter Amy Kenney of Spokane Valley; his brother Robert Merrill of Marshall; his brother Ben Merrill of Cheney; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Ethyl Merrill.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Marshall Community Church at 11 a.m., with a pot-luck reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
