Two sisters charged with taking money from their grandmother pled not guilty during their arraignment at the Spokane County Courthouse.

Jamee and Jackee Stearns, both 23, both gave their pleas. A court omnibus is set for Oct. 10, and were both assigned an Oct. 31 trial date.

The sisters gave the not guilty plea for each of their two charges: residential burglary (domestic violence) and third-degree theft (domestic violence).

According to the statement by the arresting officer, the sisters visited their grandmother's Medical Lake residence July 21. Jamee came up to her and engaged her in conversation for several minutes. The grandmother, Vivian Dean, alleged that Jackee entered her home through the residence's back door and took $300 in cash from her purse.

According to the arresting officer's statement, “She went to get her hair done the next day and found her wallet was empty; she knew she had well over $300 in the wallet the day before.”

The grandmother said that the daughters had stolen from her before, with both receiving a second-degree theft charge in that instance.

Both granddaughters received a no-contact order, restricting them from contacting their grandmother or going to her residence.

Following a first appearance in court, Jamee and Jackee were released.
