Ellen Francis Curtiss

Mrs. Ellen Francis Curtiss (Coleman) was born June 20, 1915 on a farm near Edwall, Wash. to William Harrison Coleman and Grace Emma Fry. She passed away on June 14, 2011 in Sequim, Wash. six days shy of her 96th birthday.

Following her time in Edwall, the family relocated to Davenport, Wash., then to Medical Lake where Ellen graduated from Medical Lake High School in May of 1933. She worked as a waitress in Cheney where she met her husband Donald. They married in 1938 in Seattle. Following their short time in Seattle, they moved to Anchorage, Alaski in 1941. Ellen lived lived until 1991 when she moved to Burien, Wash., then in 2000 to Sun Lakes, Ariz. and finally to sunny Sequim, Wash. in 2005.

Son-in-law Michael always said she was the perfect mother-in-law, never cross or upset about anything and that smile could light the sky. Grandma, as she was known by everyone, will be dearly missed by all.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Donald, sister Betty Miller, and brother Howard Coleman. She's survived by daughters Eileen Lawrence of Sequim, Elaine Warner of Tecopa, Calif., grand-children Kelly Key of Bellevue, Wash., Jeffrey Lawrence of Renton, Wash., Prem Robles of Bullhead City, Ariz. and Kathleen Warner of Tecopa, Calif., 10 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Ellen was buried at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery on Wednesday, June 22 with family and friends in attendance.
