Charlotte Macartney Tucker

Charlotte died May 30, 2011 at 99, simply of old age.

She was born at home March 16, 1912 in Cheney, Wash. She was the daughter of Annie Bell and Robert Henry Macartney who founded Security National Bank of Cheney (later part of Seattle First National Bank), and who played an important role in securing funding for the first men's dormitory (Sutton Hall) at Cheney Normal School (now EWU).

She grew up in Cheney, received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio and a master's degree from Prince School of Retailing at Simmons College in Boston, Mass. She worked two years at department stores in Cleveland, Boston and New York City, before returning to the West Coast in 1936, taking a job at Frederick & Nelson Department Store in Seattle. While there, Charlotte was introduced by a co-worker to her brother, William F. Tucker, and they were married in Seattle July 15, 1940.

They moved to Bellevue, Wash. in 1948, where they raised three children, Robert of Bellevue, William of Ocean Shores, Wash., and Lynn Sinnema of Carnation, Wash. She is survived by her children, eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane on July 14 at 2 p.m.
