Digging up mammoths in Central Washington subject of June 23 Ice Age Flood Institute lecture

The Ice Age Floods Institute, Cheney-Spokane Chapter is sponsoring a free public lecture by Central Washington University anthropology professor Dr. Patrick Lubinski, “Wenas Creek Mammoth Excavations” on Thursday, June 23, 7 p.m. at Eastern Washington University, Science Building room 135.

The accidental discovery of a mammoth bone near Selah, Wash., in 2005 led to a six-year investigation by CWU, providing a glimpse into life during that time. In addition to 16,000-year-old mammoth and bison bones, students and faculty have found human-made artifacts of unknown age that could shed new light on the early presence of people in Washington.

Lubinski will summarize the project and its findings using bone casts, PowerPoint images and video. For more information, send an email to [email protected] or call Melanie Bell, 509-954-4242.
