Communities to celebrate Eagles' football success this weekend

The unveiling of the NCAA Division I FCS trophy and a short parade in Spokane will be the highlights of a pair of celebrations of the EWU Eagles football team this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21 and 22, honoring the team.

The Eagles capped a 13-2 season by winning their last 11 games of the year and capturing the national title with a come-from-behind, 20-19 win over Delaware in the title tilt on Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas.

Friday's event will start at 6 p.m. at Reese Court on the EWU campus in Cheney and will be broadcast live on SWX TV (SWX Digital 6.2 in Spokane, 25.3 in the Tri-Cities & 23.3 in the Yakima area; Comcast 115; Time Warner 306; Charter 287). The event is free, with seating available on a first-come, first-serve basis, with doors open at 5 p.m.

Friday's celebration will also be carried live via radio on 700 ESPN “The Ticket” and http://www.espnnorthwest.com. Following the event, 700 ESPN “The Ticket” will re-broadcast Eastern's victory over Delaware, called by play-by-play announcer Larry Weir and analyst Paul Sorensen. Weir and Sorensen are serving as the masters of ceremonies for Friday's event.

Saturday's celebration will start at noon with a short, four-block parade starting at Washington and Main in downtown Spokane, and ending at River Park Square. A rally will follow as the City of Spokane, the Spokane County Commissioners and the community will honor the Eagles for their championship season.
