Kahla Noel is a Cheney High School graduate and 2006 Miss Cheney Rodeo. She's also one of Cheney's newest business owners.
Noel opened Cadence Massage and Esthetics in November. The business is located inside Zen Hair Studio at 1861 First St. in Cheney.
Noel said she expected things to be slow at first as she started marketing her services.
“I have instantly built clientele, not only with Zen customers who are already loyal here but with people that I brought in myself,” she said. “I am busier than I ever thought I would be, right off the bat, which is amazing to me.”
Noel offers several services from her room in the back of Zen, including several types of massage, professional makeup application, facials and waxing.
Along with traditional massage like deep tissue and Swedish varieties, Noel specializes in prenatal massage for expectant mothers and infant massage.
“I have a daughter who's 14 months old and I've given her massage ever since she was born and she just loves it,” she said, adding that the massage helps babies sleep through the night.
After graduating from high school, Noel attended Spokane Community College, where she earned an esthetics license. Shortly after earning the license, she decided she wanted to also earn a license to practice massage and completed a 1,000-hour program before testing to receive state and national licenses as a massage practitioner.
After working at a spa in Texas, Noel returned home to Cheney to attend Eastern Washington University, where she is a junior pursuing a marketing degree.
“The classes I've taken I've definitely already put to use in my own business,” she said, pointing to a recent accounting class. “I've been using my accounting for, you know, my tax returns and things. It's been great.”
Noel said she plans to build her business for the next few years, but she has bigger goals in her future.
“Eventually, one of major goals would be to open a school of massage and esthetics,” she said. “The way that Spokane is right now, there's very limited options for esthetic schools.”
For now, Noel said she's offering specials and beginning to advertise to continue building clients and she's happy in her work.
“My job is results-oriented,” she said. “People come in with ailments or issues, and I make them feel better. That's definitely the most rewarding thing.”
Cadence Massage and Esthetics is currently open Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment. For more information, call 559-5015 or visit http://www.cadencemassage.com.
