Santa Clause will join Cheney firefighters in distributing candy canes throughout Cheney during the annual holiday ride around town Dec. 19.
“Everyone that we come across will get a candy cane and holiday wishes from the firefighters,” Cheney firefighter Jeff Anderson said.
Cheney Firefighters Local 1919, the Cheney Volunteer Firefighters Association and the Cheney Fire Department teamed to put on the ride, where volunteers will also be accepting food items to donate to the Cheney Food Bank.
The ride begins Sunday at 4:30 p.m., starting at the fire station and heading toward the Salnave area, then looping north through several neighborhoods. Residents are encouraged to gather non-perishable food items and hand them off to firefighters during the tour. All food will be given to the food bank.
Anderson said the firefighters started the food drive in conjunction with the holiday ride last year, and they hope to gather more this time around.
