EWU Libraries' Oktoberfest promises to be an out-of-this-world experience

Get ready for an out-of-this-world experience at “Oktoberfest Galaxy Quest,” Eastern Washington University Libraries' annual fundraiser dinner and auction Saturday, Oct. 16, from 5-10:30 p.m. at the JFK library on Eastern's Cheney campus.

Enjoy a buffet dinner with chicken, meatballs, salad and vegetarian hummus bars provided by Victor's, with a constellation of cupcakes by Marsells Cakes & Desserts. Get in line behind Han Solo and Chewbacca for wine and beer tasting courtesy of Latah Creek Winery, Walla Walla Vintners, Northern Lights Brewing Company and Golden Hills Brewing Company. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be served.

The Don Goodwin Group will fly patrons to the moon with live jazz on an intergalactic theme. The top three contenders in the EWU Libraries' Star Search will also provide entertainment for the evening.

EWU students, faculty, staff and alumni are eligible to enter this talent contest to win a $500 cash prize sponsored by West Coast Entertainment and TicketsWest. Oktoberfest participants will cast their votes for the brightest star! Visit http://www.ewu.edu/StarSearch for more information on how to enter the contest.

Bid on gift baskets, original artwork, certificates to local restaurants and businesses, jewelry and more during the silent auction. Play the 50-50 raffle to win cash, or take a chance on the raffle to win a quilt pieced by Elizabeth Malia and quilted by Michelle Lowe of StitchesRN.com.

Auctioneer Austin Booker will command mission control for the live auction, which features a heavenly list of items and activities, including: two Dell Latitude 2110 laptop computers; relaxing getaway packages at the Northern Quest Resort hotel and the K-Diamond-K Ranch; four tickets donated by TicketsWest to see the stage production of “Legally Blonde” at the INB Performing Arts Center; a “Night Under the Stars” camping package, including an eight-person tent donated by Cabela's and two sleeping bags from Mountain Gear; an Epic Adventures whitewater rafting trip; an espresso machine and a year's supply of coffee provided by Starbuck's; and an extraordinary and theme-appropriate 11-DVD PBS series “Journey to Planet Earth” donated by Screenscope. Other items include several HP color printers, a one-year membership to EWU Recreation Center, a Fuji Odessa 2.0 bicycle from Bicycle Time, a mini-fridge, Blue-ray Disc/DVD player and portable DVD from Costco, an American Girl doll and accessories and many more items.

Tickets are $35 each or $175 for a reserved table of six, and student tickets are $15. All proceeds benefit the EWU Libraries' Collection Endowment Fund for the purchase of books and journals.
