A Spokane architectural firm will look into the feasibility of turning the Ball and Dodd Funeral Home at the corner of Second and G Streets into a new headquarters for the Cheney Police Department. The study Zack Butler will conduct will cost $12,000.
Eastern Washington University announced that its application for a grant of $105,300 to assist downtown Cheney's revitalization was successful. The grant will fund a Small-town Main Street Community learning project.
EWU student Brandon Moen has been selected as a contestant on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” hosted by Regis Philbin.
More than 7,000 fans watched the Seattle Seahawks' scrimmage at Woodward Field as the NFL team continued to conduct training camp in Cheney.

The city of Cheney - always on the lookout for ways to promote economic growth - is a prime candidate for the development of a business park. At least that's the conclusion of a recent $1,800 study conducted on behalf of the city's Economic Development Board.
The Eastern Washington University Board of Trustees have authorized the submittal of their 1991-93 biennial operations budget of $129.8 million, plus a capital budget request of $20.1 million to the state's Office of Financial Management.
Looking to improve the efficiency of the Cheney Police Department office, members of the City Council authorized a reorganization. The secretary-dispatcher will become a full-time secretary to chief Jerry Gardner while a half-time dispatcher position will become fulltime.
Airway Heights moved one step closer to becoming the site of a medium security prison following a 2 ½ hour public hearing that attracted an overflow crowd at city hall. The majority of the 80 or so people in attendance showed approval with a show of hands. Earlier meetings in Chelan and Douglas counties had significant opposition to hosting the facility.
A Cheney U-14 softball team coached by Steve Powers battled to the championship round of the Spokane Youth Sports Association's fastpitch tourney, losing in the title game 20-19. Mary Tabino (.586) and Marla Powers (.500) were the leading hitters in the tournament.

Approximately 15 percent of the Cheney has been wired for cable television with the rest to be completed and ready for service by Nov. 1, according to Tom Davis of Cheney Cable.
Some $3 million worth of new gravel will be spread across an estimated 800 miles of rural roads in Eastern Washington in an effort to combat the effects of the eruption of Mount St. Helens.
Security issues at Pine Lodge Correctional Center not only have the attention of neighbors and the residents of nearby Medical Lake, but are also making Washington State legislators take notice. Curt Messix, a spokesman for a group of residents called C.O.P.S. (Citizens Organized to Protect Society) said, “We will not be satisfied with promises. We in C.O.P.S. want our security back.” State Rep. Dick Bond wrote a letter critical of the security at the facility.
The Seattle Seahawks, 130 strong, consume an average of 21 pounds of bacon, 20 pounds of hash browns and 18 cans of juice for breakfast and 30 pounds of deli meats and cheese each day according to a report from team food consultant Knells Astor.
