A Cheney man died from injuries sustained after a car hit him Sunday night on the 1300 block of First Street.
James Dahl, 61, died at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital after he was struck by a 1997 Kia Sephia driven southbound by William Knight, 47. The collision occurred at 10:46 p.m. Sunday, according to a Washington State Patrol Report.
Dahl was the owner of Chet's Flowers with his wife Joy since 2008.
Troopers said members of Dahl's family witnessed the collision and reported it to Cheney Police before the case was turned over to WSP due to the severity of Dahl's injuries and because First Street is also a state highway.
Knight, who resides in the Williams Lake area, struck a bicyclist on Cheney-Plaza Road April 15 with the same vehicle, according to reports. The bicyclist, 36-year-old Theodore Chauvin, suffered a broken leg and shoulder and charges against Knight are pending.
No charges have been filed in Sunday's incident, but WSP continues to investigate. To read Dahl's obituary, turn to page 9.
