With rising tuition costs and possible cuts to financial aid, Eastern Washington University is launching the “We Need You” campaign to raise awareness and support for its general scholarship fund.
The campaign is highlighted by a website and unique video designed to share just how EWU students will be impacted by possible budget cuts to higher education.
At this time, cuts to financial aid could impact more than 3,000 Eastern students, and many middle-to-low income students could be forced to leave college without this support. Students are also burdened with unprecedented tuition increases, as the budget crisis forced all state universities to raise tuition by 14 percent for the current academic year. Tuition will also increase by the same amount next year.
“More than ever before, Eastern students will have to rely on scholarship funds to fulfill their dream of a college education,” Michael Westfall, vice president for advancement at EWU said. “While the state is considering other funding options that would mitigate any financial aid cuts, we cannot afford to wait until it is too late for students.”
The “We Need You” campaign includes an e-mail solicitation to donors, as well as a video from students urging supporters to give to the scholarship fund.
