Eastern Washington University has received a $300,000 gift to provide scholarship support for students in the College of Science, Health and Engineering (CSHE).
The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has designated the gift toward varied scholarships in the health sciences at EWU. These programs include things like biology, biotechnology, nursing and chemistry.
The bequest will allow five different scholarships in CSHE to be raised to an endowment level of $100,000 each, which means the principal is invested so the interest can fund the actual student scholarships.
“This generous gift is a sign that Eastern supporters are committed to making sure our students come first in these tough economic times,” Michael Westfall, vice president for advancement at EWU said. “It also speaks to the strength of our growing health science programs, which include at least one-third of Eastern's student body.”
Westfall also noted the donation, on the heels of a $500,000 gift from alumnus and current NFL player Michael Roos, brings the total amount of gifts received in the last month to nearly a million dollars.
