EWU hosts Spokane All-city Jazz concert

A concert featuring some of the finest young musicians in the region will take place on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Showalter Auditorium at Eastern Washington University. Trumpet player and educator Marcus Printup will be featured with the Spokane All-city Jazz Ensembles lighting up the stage with music spanning the history of jazz.

EWU jazz director Robb Tapper created the Spokane All-City Jazz Ensemble in 2003. The ensemble features over 75 of the finest high school and middle school musicians in the Spokane area. There will be 10 groups performing in concert with Printup.

Printup is one of the most in demand trumpet players in the business and has performed and/or recorded with Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves, Eric Reed, Cyrus Chestnut, Wycliffe Gordon and Marcus Roberts. Printup has several records as a leader including, “Song for the Beautiful Woman,” “Unveiled” and “Peace in the Abstract. His most recent release is “Bird of Paradise.” He made his screen debut in the 199 movie “Playing by Heart” and recorded songs on the film's soundtrack.

Admission prices for the Feb. 7 concert are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
