Eastern Washington University announced last week that three former Cheney High School students have been awarded scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year.
Kaitlin Salley has been awarded an ASEWU Scholarship for $1,000 for the 2009-2010 academic year at EWU. The ASWEU Scholarship can be awarded to continuing students active in an EWU club or organization.
Salley graduated from Cheney High School two years ago, where she was involved with the National Honor Society and Spanish club. She currently attends EWU where she is studying geology. Salley is the daughter of James Salley of Spokane and Cindy Anderson of Cheney.
Leah Parker has been awarded an Academic Honors scholarship for $3,000 for the 2009-2010 academic year at Eastern. The award is given to new incoming freshman who demonstrated outstanding academic merit and achievements in high school and have achieved a 3.7-plus GPA and/or an SAT score of 1,100-plus or ACT score of 24 or higher.
Parker graduated from Cheney High School last year, where she was the National Honor Society vice president. She currently attends EWU where she is studying education and psychology. She is the daughter of Kevin Parker of Cheney.
Stephani Wethington of Spokane has been awarded $2,500 through the Trustees fund for the 2009-2010 academic year at Eastern. The award is given to a student who maintains a 3.8-plus GPA and is a continuing EWU student.
Wethington graduated from Cheney High School three years ago, where she played tennis and was a member of Spanish club. She currently attends EWU where she is studying dental hygiene. She is the daughter of Staci Thompson of Spokane and Gerry Wethington.

Morgan Gariepy of Four Lakes, Wash. has been awarded the History Faculty scholarship for $500 for the 2009-2010 academic year. The award is given to students who are history majors.
Gariepy graduated from Cheney High School two years ago where he was in concert choir and the “Music ‘N Motion” show choir. He currently attends EWU where he is studying history. Gariepy is also treasurer for Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.
