Dennis Ray Welty, age 63, passed into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 29, 2009 at Sacred Heart Medical Center. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Denny had touched in so many ways throughout his short yet memorable life.
Dennis was born in Williston, N.D. on April 18, 1946. His early childhood years were spent in Buford, N.D. and his later childhood years were spent in Sidney, Mont. where he attended Sidney High. As a child he found a part of his life's passion as he entered the boxing ring in Sidney.
As an adult he moved to Spokane, Wash. where he met his wife Kathleen, and the couple had two sons. Denny got back into boxing by coaching his son Rick when he lived in Spokane for 16 years.
His life journey continued in Kellogg, Idaho, where he lived for 23 years. He started coaching there with the Silver Valley Boxing Club and was also passionately involved in being a foster parent to many children for several years.
In 2000, Denny and his family moved back to the Spokane area, where his other hobby of playing horseshoes, regardless of any weather conditions, made the headlines in the newspaper. In the remainder of his life he continued to be a blessing to so many people and he will be missed!
Dennis is survived by his wife Kathy, his sons Dale, David, Rick, daughter Tina, son Tim, by his oldest brother Leon and grandson Kolby.
A memorial service in the celebration of his life is being held at the Baptist Church on Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. in Airway Heights, 12322 W. Sunset Hwy.
