Cheney Firefighters Local 1919 in conjunction with the Cheney Volunteer Firefighters Association and the Cheney Fire Department will once again do a “Candy Cane Hayride” through Cheney.
The event will take place on Sunday, Dec. 20. Firefighters will be traveling through town handing out candy canes to people who brave the cold and possibly snow and come out and meet them at the street. There will be holiday music playing and Santa Claus will be spreading good cheer along with the firefighters.
The firefighters and volunteers are trying a different format this year. The event will be only one night traveling through the various neighborhoods following the mapped route. In addition this year firefighters are collecting food for the food bank and those less fortunate. There is no requirement for donating food. Everyone encountered will get a candy cane and holiday wishes.
Please join the firefighters in enjoying the holiday season with this fun event. The ride starts at 6 p.m., beginning towards the Salnave area, then around 7:15 p.m., will start at the north end of Cheney.
Firefighters hope to be in the Orchards around 8:15 p.m., then work their way back to the fire station by 9 p.m. All times are approximate.
