Friends plan Curry family benefit Sunday

Robert Curry wasn't one to complain, friends say.

The longtime Cheney resident passed away unexpectedly last month, leaving many of those friends shocked and saddened.

“He just never told you how ill he was,” said Barb Boots, a friend of the Curry family.

Boots and others have organized a benefit dinner and silent auction Sunday to help the family with medical and funeral costs. Gatto's restaurant will donate a portion of all sales Sunday, Dec. 13, and will host a silent auction from 4-7 p.m.

Curry, a 1982 graduate of Cheney High School, owned Cheney Muffler Complete Automotive from 2000 to 2005, when his diabetes required him to sell the business. A semi-routine thyroid surgery in November resulted in complications and Curry died Nov. 12.

“Robert was always about helping other people,” Boots said. “We can't help him anymore but right now we can help his family out.”

Boots said Curry had many friends in the community and the benefit has had positive support. She thanked Cheney businesses for their support in donating auction items. To donate items, contact Boots at 714-7852 or Cindy Swank at 999-3323.

Donations can also be made at Cheney Federal Credit Union to the “Robert and Allison Curry Fund.”
