Mary O. Bond

Mary O. Bond

Mary went home to be with her Lord in Heaven on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009. She was born Mary Olive Crooks on July 17, 1924 in Chicago to parents Raymond F. Crooks and Sarah J. Gorham. In 1943 she married Wilmer S. Bond and after the war they moved south to Mississippi where her two children were born. In 1954 she moved with her family to Issaquah, Wash. After her divorce from W.S. Bond in 1978 she attended and graduated from Griffin Business College in Seattle where she earned a degree in bookkeeping. She accepted the challenge of living and working in Seattle and was a member of the Ballard Eagles where she enjoyed social get-togethers and dances. Wanting to live near her daughter during her retirement years, Mary moved to Cheney in 1987 where she resided for the next 22 years. In 1999 she married her next door neighbor Visher “Dick” Wallingford, also of Cheney. She was left alone again when he passed away in 2003. In 2005 Mary moved into Sessions Village, living happily among her many friends.

She is survived by her first husband, her two younger sisters Catherine F. Shields-Birchall of Fulton, Mo. and Patricia A. Ellena Conway of Charlottesville, Va.; her daughter Marylu B. Wade (Ed) of Cheney, her son James S. Bond (Paola) of Clearwater, Fl., her grandson Matthew M. Wade (Erika) of Spokane, her grandson Peter J. Wade (Sarrah) of Lincoln, Calif., and three great-grandchildren; Hannah, Elijah, and Marryn. A memorial service remembering her life and celebrating her eternal life will be held at Cheney Community Church Saturday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. The family requests memorials be directed to Cheney Community Church, 1307 Third St., Cheney, WA 99004. The highlight of Mary's week was Sunday when she “got to go to church.” Her family also wishes to thank the many staff at St. Joseph Care Center in Spokane for their love and care for Mary during her illness in Jan./Feb., May/June and Sept./Oct. Cheney Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
