Cheney to hold comprehensive plan public workshop Sept. 30

Choices for Cheney will be holding the first public workshop for the city's 2030 comprehensive plan on Wednesday, Sept. 30, beginning at 6 p.m. at Betz Elementary School.

Cheney Mayor Allan Gainer, City Administrator Arlene Fisher, the City Council and the Planning Commission invite all Cheney residents to this first citywide meeting. The meeting will take place in the cafeteria, and should run no longer than 8 p.m.

The comprehensive plan will address the following topics: Mobility (pedestrian, bicycle, transit, auto), economic development, arts and culture, housing, technology, land use, natural assets/sustainability, utilities and capital facilities.

The city's last comprehensive plan was developed in 1997. It is expected that the new plan will be completed by 2010. City staff and experts in public outreach, transportation, and economic development, together with over 80 volunteers from the community are helping guide the process.

The overall goal is to adopt a plan that provides a framework for decision making, policy, and ultimately describes where the city should be by 2030. Public input on how residents envision Cheney in the future is a vital element of the planning process. Everyone is encourage to attend.
