Reward for road rage solution

Crime Stoppers has offered a cash reward for information that solves an Aug. 14 road rage incident that sent a man and woman to an area hospital with significant injuries.

The couple was on a motorcycle southbound on the Newport Highway when they became involved in a dispute with the driver of a van that cut them off changing lanes. At the 7900 block of North Division, the van was stopped by other traffic and the two cyclists dismounted and approached the van.

The van started to drive off and the male motorcyclist smashed out a window on the van with his helmet. The couple then returned to the motorcycle, but the van backed up and over the bike, trapping the motorcycle and male driver beneath the vehicle and knocking the female down and away.

When the van reversed course and pulled away, the motorcycle and driver came free.

Detectives checked the van's license plate number provided by witnesses. It shows the registered owner to be Butch Stephen's Organizational Church in Post Falls, Idaho, but detectives have been unable to establish whether or not the church actually exists.

The van is described as a 1986 full-size black and silver Chevrolet conversion van. It was judged a “beater” by witnesses, and had the left rear side sanded down and primered.

The driver (suspect) had claimed to his victims that he lived in the Cheney area, but the van has not been located there either.

Anyone with information regarding this vehicular assault is urged to call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 509-327-5111, or by submitting the tip via the Crime Stoppers website, http://www.crimestoppersinlandnorthwest.org.

Callers do not have to give their name to collect the cash reward.
