Lucretia May (Chris) Denman

Lucretia May (Chris) Denman, nee Tubbs, age 75, passed away Aug. 16, 2009. She is preceded in death by her father, Ernest; her brother, Sonny; her husband, John and her grandson, Nathan.

Chris, as most know her, was one of 10 children born to Ernest and Annah Tubbs on Oct. 16, 1933 in Missoula, Mont. She graduated from Drummond School in May 1948. Chris met John, her husband of 51 years, when her brother Bud brought him home while on leave from the Air Force while stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. They were married June 28, 1953 and lived in Montana; Denver, Colo .; Moses Lake, Wash .; Fairchild and finally Medical Lake, Wash.

While raising eight children (Jeannie, Debbie, Ernie, Carey, David, Kathy, Jon and Clifford), Chris also worked and retired from Global Credit Union (formerly Fairchild Credit Union) as a loan officer. She also volunteered numerous hours as a member of the St. Anne’s Catholic Church Altar Society; as treasurer and human rights representative for the Lakeland Village Association; as a co-Den mother to her sons’ Cub Scout troop and as the secretary of the Medical Lake Little League. Chris also served as the president of the Medical Lake Elementary School PTA and as president of the Spokane County PTA. During her tenure with the PTA, she was awarded the Golden Acorn Award for her service.

Later in life, Chris became a member of the Red Hat’s Society. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor home each summer to the National Gunner’s Association’s functions, of which John was a member. She also enjoyed tending to her rose garden and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two brothers, six sisters, eight children & their spouses, 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20, from noon – 5 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, Spokane. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Medical Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, at St. Anne’s. Everyone is invited to attend a luncheon reception at St. Anne’s Parish Hall, immediately following the service.

Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park, located on Government Way in Spokane. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Medical Lake. Please sign the online memorial book at http://www.hennessey-smith.com.
