Lakeland Village blood drive Dec. 12

Lakeland Village in Medical Lake is hosting a blood drive for the Inland Northwest Blood Center on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pre-registration is available by calling 509-299-1909. Picture identification is required and donors must be at least 18 years old.

Dec. 6 workshop deals with wireworms

Washington State University Extension invites farmers to a workshop on wireworm management on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 8-10 a.m. at Spangle's Harvester Restaurant. Farmers and researchers will discuss their work and experiences with wireworm, which has caused damage to grain crops in recent years in both tillage and direct seed systems.

Featured speakers at the workshop include Dave Bragg from WSU Extension and Nate Andersen from Bayer Crop Science. The workshop is free and open to anyone, and a no-host breakfast will be available. For more information call 509-477-2167.

Turnbull hosts winter festival Dec. 8

On Dec. 8, Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge will host its annual Winter Festival. Come join us for the Washington State University raptor program, a track-making activity for children and music from local musicians.

Coffee and cookies; chili and cornbread will be provided. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. You can bring your boots and mittens and go for a walk as well. Do some Christmas shopping in our gift shop.

German-American service held Dec. 9

The German-American Society will celebrate its annual German Christmas Service on Sunday, Dec. 9, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, located at the corner of 24th Avenue and Grand Boulevard in Spokane.

The service begins at 3 p.m. and will be in English and German. The Concordia Choir of the German-American Society will sing before and during the service traditional German Christmas carols.

Worshippers of all denominations are welcome to attend. A reception with coffee and Christmas cookies will follow the service at the Deutsches Haus, W. 25 Third Ave.
