Cheney basketball plays for food

The Cheney girls' basketball team is hosting a jamboree on Saturday, Nov. 24, and all it will cost to get in are a couple cans of food.

The jamboree will include teams from North Central High School in Spokane and Deer Park High School. Action begins at 2 p.m. with games between rival freshmen squads, followed by the junior varsity action at 3 p.m. and varsity action at 4 p.m.

The public is invited to bring a couple of cans of food and watch this year's Lady Hawks in action. All donations go to the Cheney Food Bank.

Cheney library group meets Nov. 27

“Digging to America” by Anne Tyler is the November selection of the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. at the library. All are welcome. Please call 235-4490 for more information.

“Digging in America” is the story of two American families who adopt baby girls from Korea. Soon the parents and grandparents become involved with each other's lives. The book is a poignant novel by one of America's best contemporary writers.

St. Paul's Christmas bazaar Dec. 1

St. Paul's Episcopal Annual Christmas Bazaar will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Paul's, 625 C Street, on the edge of the Eastern Washington University campus. Baked goods, jellies and jams, crafts and special white elephant items will be available. For more information, call Kathy Lamphere, 235-9399.

St. John Winterfest Craft Show Dec. 1

Everyone is invited to come and check out the St. John Winterfest Craft Show, Saturday, Dec. 1, in St. John, Wash. The show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fire station located on Front Street.
