Ronald L. Jarms, 71, longtime Cheney resident passed away October 10, 2007 in Spokane, WA.

Jarms was born March 30, 1936, in Monona, Iowa, to Harvey and Vera Jarms. He lived on the family dairy farm and was an All-American basketball player at Upper Iowa University. He graduated in 1958 with bachelor of science degree and a double major in physical education and science and math.

After college, Jarms worked as a manager in retail sales until 1972 when he and his family came to Cheney when he purchased the Edgett Brothers Hardware, which eventually became Jarms Hardware. He retired in 1995.

Jarms was a supporter of Eastern Washington University athletics, was an avid fisherman and basketball fan. He loved working in his yard and on his cabin on Vancouver Island. He will be greatly missed.

Jarms is survived by his wife, Tracy Jarms at the home, children: Kimberly Snook and her husband Jay of Clarkston, Wash., Bill Jarms and his wife Carol of Cheney, Tom Jarms and his wife Charlene of Cheney, and Dan Jarms and his wife Linda of Spokane, mother Vera Jarms-Wirkler of Postville, Iowa, sister Sandy Dearing of Postville, Iowa, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

His son, Michael Jarms, preceded Jarms in death in 1984.

The visitation was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. at Cheney Funeral Chapel, 1632 West First Street.
