Cheney book group meets Sept. 25
“The Mapmaker's Wife: A True Tale of Love, Murder and Survival in the Amazon” opens the 2007-2008 season for the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group meets on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at the library. All are welcome.
“The Mapmaker's Wife” combines science, history and adventure in an exciting story that includes a description of one woman's struggle to survive in the jungle.

Cheney coats collected until Oct. 12
Cheney's 11th annual Cheney Helping Cheney Community Coat Drive is taking place right now. Collections dates run from Sept. 17 to Oct. 12, with donation boxes set up at several local businesses.
The coats will be distributed on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Salnave Elementary School.
St. Anne's Octoberfest coming Oct. 13
Medical Lake's St. Anne's Catholic Church is holding an Octoberfest Craft and Vender Fair on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church located at 708 East Lake Street.
Admission is free and all are welcome to come early and stay late while perusing through local homemade arts and crafts, and enjoying tasty treats from the snack bar.

Horses, donkeys and more on Oct. 6
The West Plains Community Fair is having a Long Ear Short Ear Equine Playday (Gymkhana) fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Valley Mission Arena. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the show starts at 9 a.m.
The entry fee is $4 per class or $30 all day. This is for all ages. For entry forms call MaryAnn at (509) 990-6246 or pick up the form at Cheney Feed and Tack, 2110 1st Street.
